In Which I Ask for Music Recommendations
This entry was meant for my livejournal but I figured I’d post it here too.
I have a few burning music related questions and was hoping somebody on my friends list could answer them for me. If you can’t, but happen to know of a good music community where I could get some help, that’d be fab too.
1) How is the new Charlotte Gainsbourg cd, 5:55? I have two songs off the album (The Songs That We Sing and Everything I Cannot See) and I kinda like them but I can’t decide if I think they’re fab enough to buy the album. I was hoping somebody who had it could tell me how much they like it and whether it’s worth buying or not.
2) I’ve heard good things about Jacques Dutronc. Which album of his should I get? If you happen to know of a place where I could hear some samples of his music, that would be fab.
3) I love Serge Gainsbourg and I want more Gainsbourg albums. Right now, the only album I have is Histoire de Melody Nelson. I have the Revisited/Originals also, but those are obviously recently compiled and don’t really count. I love just about everything I’ve heard from him. Which album should I get next?
4) I think I want a Regina Spektor album. Which album should I start with?
5) Same question as last except M83 instead.
I used “fab” too many times in this entry. I apologize.
Postscript: As a prize for reading this/helping me, I uploaded Knee-High from Solex to my radio blog. I was going to upload it to yousendit but that wasn’t working out. Ugh. So I wanted something.

Revamp'd Radio Blog
I finally changed up my radio blog. I don’t think anybody listens, but I decided I want it to be fresh again. So click the listen link to enjoy!
The semi-theme this time is pretty shallow. It’s just all about the ladies with pretty songs. The contents are as follows (since I don’t have artists displayed on the radio blog):
Ladies, Ladies…
- Lloyd, I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken – Camera Obscura
- Tom the Model – Beth Gibbons and Rustin’ Man
- Nothing and Nowhere – Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton
- Les Yeux Bleus – France Gall
- Don’t Blame Your Daughter (Diamonds) – The Cardigans
- Il N’y A Pas d’Amour Heureux – Francoise Hardy

We Must Have a Little Fun
Morning Break Time!
It’s been a long time since I’ve talked music. I really don’t have the time right now to “talk” music but I figured I’d post my current playlist. It’s a little weird, but at least there’s no Bright Eyes on it. I listen to it ALL THE TIME. Sometimes I listen to a Sufjan, Iron and Wine, or Decemberists album or maybe a White Rose Movement or Goldfrapp song but really, I’m all about this playlist right now. I think I’d like to add more to it, but I’m not sure still.
Anyway, you can find this playlist on my ipod as “This is Not About Love”
- I’m a Monster – Ours
- Not About Love – Fiona Apple
- Miseryhead – Ours
- Lover, You Should Have Come Over – Jeff Buckley
- Bitter – Remy Zero
- It’s Wasting Me Away – The Electric Soft Parade
- Last Dance – The Cure
- Perfect Memory – Remy Zero
- Alcoholic – Starsailor
- Portions For Foxes – Rilo Kiley
- O’ Sailor – Fiona Apple
- Please Sister – The Cardigans
- Fallen Souls – Ours
- We Might As Well Be Strangers – Keane
- Last Goodbye – Jeff Buckley
- Belong – Remy Zero
- Drowning – Ours
- Hallelujah – Jeff Buckley
- She Just Wept – Starsailor
- A Man/Me/Then Jim – Rilo Kiley
- Where Did You Go – Matthew
- Bedshaped – Keane

Radio Blog Update
A new radio blog playlist has been born! Just check out the “play some tunes” link at the top of the page under the search feature.
This, as most of my playlists, is a semi-themed list. A group of songs which I felt fit together content and sound wise. I’m not entirely sure what to tell you the theme is, because I really don’t know myself, but it has one. Almost.
I’m actually not terribly happy with it, because I couldn’t put Lost at Sea from Eisley on it. But I believe I’m finally over that. Due to my dissatisfaction though, this might be short lived and quickly give way to a new, completely different playlist. We’ll see.
For now though, let’s just talk about this one.
Overcome Building Blocks
- Tisbury Lane – From Mae. I really don’t know why this song is here. I almost wish I hadn’t put it up. It’s not that it’s a bad song, just maybe not the best choice to share with the world.
- Science vs Romace – From Rilo Kiley. I would almost say that I am happiest with my choice of this song for the playlist, but I hesitate. I haven’t listened to it very much. Maybe that’s why I say that, then. In any case, it’s still kind of nifty. The vocals slightly remind me of Leigh Nash’s.
- Pale Trembles A Gale – From The Autumns. Lovely, lovely song. Often hailed as their best.
- Nightingale – From Saves the Day. Not a favorite artist, but a nice song.
- Carousels – From mewithoutYou. I had to put this song in here. My whole template is based around it. Now, taste the inspiration
- Naked As We Came – From Iron & Wine. A pretty song.
